New Status/Debuff concept for League of Legends

I occasionally find myself in a match or 2 of LoL. I am one of those weirdos that mostly plays ARAM, so perhaps my opinion doesn’t count as much, but I’ve had this idea swirling around in my head for a while.

The new status effect or a debuff, however you want to call it, is “Grounded”. If we go by the name of it, you may think that this is just a renamed “root”, but it’s actually a lot more fun than that. While not a hard crowd control effect, it introduces a new avenue of counter play against those more disruptive or elusive champions.

Here are a few examples of affected abilities from Ahri, Malphite, Kassadin and Yasuo.

So what does it do?

Grounded:
Affected champion’s movement based abilities (dash, blink/teleport, leap) are disabled for the duration of this effect.
The champions are still free to move and activate any other abilities or items.

I came up with a number of champions currently in the game that could receive a “Grounded” effect applying ability. You can see them below.

What’s your opinion on this new status effect and which champions do you think would be improved with it in their kit?

Nidalee
Bushwhack/Bounce
In human form, Nidalee lays a trap for unwary opponents that, when sprung, damages, reveals and grounds it’s target. As a cougar, she jumps in a direction, dealing damage in an area when she lands.
Urgot
Corrosive Charge
Fires an explosive charge at the target location, dealing physical damage and grounding enemies caught in the explosion.
Karma
Focused Resolve
Karma creates a tether between herself and a target enemy, dealing damage and revealing them. If the tether is not broken, the enemy will be damaged again.

Mantra Bonus: Karma strengthens the link, healing herself and Grounding the enemy for the duration of the tether.
Kassadin
Force Pulse
Kassadin draws energy from spells cast in his vicinity. Upon charging up, Kassadin can use Force Pulse to damage and Ground enemies in a cone in front of him
Xin Zhao
Crescent Guard
Xin Zhao deals damage to nearby enemies based on their current Health and Grounds them while they remain within the circle. Xin Zhao is impervious to damage dealt by champions outside of the circle.
